We tried! For the record, it was even our ambitions from the beginning, we wandered through the aisles of the showMade in France (MiF Expo), met lots of incredible entrepreneurs, understood that the subject would not be as simple as that and then started some very friendly discussions with a clothing workshop in Ile de France.
The outcome of the races cooled us: if Portugal is already very "premium" in the pricing approach, production on French soil would have required multiplying the final price of Origins by... 3. It did not seem legitimate to us to offer a first product at such a price, it was "out of touch" and not at all in the Iron Back spirit.
Our conclusion on this is far from definitive, however. "Origins" was very expensive because it's a complex product, not suited, in our opinion, to ultra-local production. However, we haven't ruled out using a French workshop for future collections; it's something close to our hearts.
On the other hand, let's be clear: we are against using "made in France" as the sole selling point. Either the product is good, interesting, well-made, and made in France. Cool. Or it is made elsewhere. The place of manufacture, however cock-a-doodle-doo it may be, should not be the only argument in favor of the product, otherwise you have a problem (besides, it doesn't work).
